Today, I interviewed my mother about a memorable book that she has read. Ugly by Constance Briscoe was her reply. After that, she went on to explain the book. The book was a true story recounted by the author’s past real-life experiences. The story starts with a girl named Constance, as suggested from the author’s name, who gets teased because of her looks.
Being one of the youngest in the large family, Constance was often tortured and ill-treated by her mother, who frequently puts her down due to her looks. Despite these setbacks and hardships, she grits her teeth and bears with it, and becomes a barrister. The moral of the story is apparent: Never to give up no matter how hard life may become. My mother, although not an avid reader, liked the book as it was very inspiring. Most importantly, it is very admirable of Constance to somehow, find the courage to live on and eventually have a successful career and life. Although it might be hard to believe that Constance’s mother is capable of such cruelty, the determination of Constance is what attracts my mother to finish reading the book. As such, she has learnt that will is the key to success. --205 words 1A109 left the world of darkness on 10:17 PM |
