Today, I interviewed my mother about a memorable book that she has read. Ugly by Constance Briscoe was her reply. After that, she went on to explain the book. The book was a true story recounted by the author’s past real-life experiences. The story starts with a girl named Constance, as suggested from the author’s name, who gets teased because of her looks.
Being one of the youngest in the large family, Constance was often tortured and ill-treated by her mother, who frequently puts her down due to her looks. Despite these setbacks and hardships, she grits her teeth and bears with it, and becomes a barrister. The moral of the story is apparent: Never to give up no matter how hard life may become. My mother, although not an avid reader, liked the book as it was very inspiring. Most importantly, it is very admirable of Constance to somehow, find the courage to live on and eventually have a successful career and life.
Although it might be hard to believe that Constance’s mother is capable of such cruelty, the determination of Constance is what attracts my mother to finish reading the book. As such, she has learnt that will is the key to success.

Ever since a few years ago, when I was in primary school, I had been addicted to computer gaming. Every day after school, the first thing I would do when I reached home was to play games, neglecting my schoolwork. My parents were furious when my grades dropped, and decided to ban me from playing computer games. When I heard that, I felt like I had lost something important in my life, and since then, I wandered aimlessly, without a goal. Last time, when I was given permission to play computer games, I had a goal: To reach the maximum level possible. But now, that goal was dashed.
A few weeks after I was banned, I started to find something else to do, as it was boring without computer games. Thus, I decided to do something which I seldom done --- Reading. It was a few years ago, I could only remember vaguely the first book I had took up. It was called Harry Potter. Although the book was exaggeratingly thick, I treated it as a challenge. Once I read the first few pages, it was impossible to stop. I read for two continuous days and finished the whole book. I realised that reading books are purely for leisure, but playing computer games can harm your body, as when I was playing computer games, I would tend to get too excited. There was once when I had a fever, and on the second day, it had subsided to a mere 37 degrees. After I played computer games, the fever went up to a whopping 38.2 degrees.
